Patients with HIV may experience symptoms that can range from mild to chronic. These symptoms may arise from the disease itself, prescription medication, or as a result of other conditions.1
Symptoms may include1:
- Diarrhea
- Gastroparesis, a disorder in which the stomach takes too long to empty
- Constipation
- Gas/bloating
- Lactose intolerance
- Nausea and vomiting
- Dry mouth
- Mouth or throat sores
- Change in taste
- Fatigue
Maintaining adequate nutrition while experiencing these symptoms is important. Always tell a healthcare professional about symptoms and any associated complications, and consult a healthcare professional before taking any remedies or medicines to treat symptoms. These may interfere with prescribed therapy and can even worsen HIV disease.
